Ignite the light within, don't let the past define you
In the face of life's challenges and crises, it's only natural to seek support and guidance from a trusted professional. At the heart of my practice lies a deep respect for the courage it takes to seek help, and I am dedicated to providing a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for healing and growth.
I am Dr. Karin Vandervoort, a licensed clinical psychologist with over twenty years of experience providing psychotherapy to individuals and couples in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a holistic and integrative approach, I view each person as a unique whole, comprised of interconnected physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects. I am committed to working collaboratively with you, fostering clarity, and empowering you to navigate life's challenges with greater ease and resilience.
My Approach
As a psychotherapist, I strive to strike a delicate balance between compassionate support and the gentle challenge necessary for personal growth. Drawing on insights from contemporary psychoanalytic thought, attachment theory, trauma-informed practices, and mindfulness-based interventions, I utilize a multi-faceted approach tailored to each individual's needs and circumstances.
In our work together, we will attend to the underlying wounds that give rise to your symptoms, recognizing that these symptoms are essential expressions of your unique psyche-soma. By gently turning towards your discomfort and working through it together, we can cultivate a deeper understanding of the patterns that may be hindering your personal growth, and explore new pathways towards healing and well-being.

Exceptional Therapist
Dr. Karin Vandervoort is a highly skilled and dedicated therapist, psychoanalyst, and instructor who has received glowing reviews from her clients. According to Elise Geltman, who has worked closely with Dr. Vandervoort for four years, the doctor is exceptionally caring, empathetic, sensitive, and perceptive. These qualities enable her to work with patients on a deep and tender level, addressing their most personal and complex challenges. Geltman praises Dr. Vandervoort's rigor, intelligence, and commitment to her work, noting that she is "highly ethical and deeply committed to the intimate and complex work of healing." Overall, Geltman recommends Dr. Vandervoort highly, suggesting that most people would be fortunate to work with her.
Disappointing Experience
Unfortunately, not all experiences with Dr. Vandervoort have been positive. Lesley Culver shares a disturbing story of her interactions with the doctor in 2012. Consumed by depression and suicidal thoughts following seven failed surgeries, Culver sought help from Dr. Vandervoort. However, during their session, Culver reports that the doctor failed to provide any guidance or support, instead criticizing the concept of hope as a "very bad thing." Culver felt destroyed by the encounter and warns others to exercise caution when seeing Dr. Vandervoort, claiming she is not helpful.
