Empowering Individuals, Strengthening Families
As a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California, I am dedicated to providing high-quality psychological assessment and treatment services to adolescents and adults. With advanced training and extensive experience in treating clients with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and trauma, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment for my patients.
Education, Clinical Training, & Research
My educational background is marked by completing my degree in Psychology with Highest Honors from the University of Michigan in 1984. I then went on to pursue my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and later earned my Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from the same institution. Throughout my educational journey, I gained valuable experience through internships at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Palo Alto Medical Center, and the Children's Health Council.
As a Clinical Psychologist, I believe that evidence-based research is essential in the development of effective treatment methods. As such, my professional background is infused with a strong foundation in research and psychology. I have conducted research on various topics, including the development of character disorders in adolescence, trajectories of personality development in adolescence and early adulthood, and innovative measures of psychopathology and personality as applied to diagnostic methods.
Clinical Services
When working with new clients, I take the time to listen and understand the underlying causes of their distress and difficulties. This involves gathering a history of their development and distress, and exploring various treatment options. After our initial consultation period, I will present my findings and offer suggestions for treatment. It is essential for clients to evaluate this information and consider their own needs, comfort level, and agreement with the proposed treatment plan.
Throughout our work together, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including developmental, psychodynamic, interpersonal, family systems, and neurobehavioral approaches. I also stay updated on the latest scientific research on the effectiveness of various psychotherapeutic treatment methods, enabling me to guide clients to treatment approaches and clinicians that are empirically supported.
Frequency and Duration of Sessions
The frequency and duration of sessions are determined through a discussion of the client's treatment goals, levels of distress, scheduling, and costs. Typically, I meet with clients once or twice weekly for 50-minute sessions. However, some clients may require more or less frequent sessions, and we can work together to find a schedule that suits their needs.
Patient Forms
Before our initial meeting, I may require clients to complete specific forms that will help me better understand their situation. Please contact me at (650) 327-4790 to determine whether a consultation would be suitable for you.
Mission Statement
As a Clinical Psychologist, my mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment services to individuals, couples, and families. By combining my expertise in psychological development, brain function, and treatment methods, I strive to empower my clients to overcome their struggles and achieve a healthier, more fulfilling life.
