Healing Hearts. Restoring Relationships. Liberating Lives.
At McCarrey Counseling, we believe that actual connection with a real human being is the cornerstone of our practice. Our founder, a licensed professional counselor, has a degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in applied existentialism. This means that our approach is rooted in humanity and understanding, rather than just applying a particular psychological theory.
Our Story
Our journey began in Southern California, where our founder met people from all over the world, forming lifelong friendships with individuals from Central and Southeast Asia, as well as South America. This experience taught us the importance of exploring and understanding different cultures and avoiding assumptions about our own way of doing things.
As a young adult, our founder lived in Eastern Europe, learning Russian and Estonian. This experience further broadened their view of the world and fueled a desire to pursue a career in counseling, where they could work face-to-face with people to improve their lives. Education in psychology from Utah Valley University and a Master's degree in existential psychology from Seattle University strengthened our founder's belief in the importance of understanding what individuals want to accomplish and how they want to achieve it.
Our Experience
Our founder has been working in the mental health community since 2007, with diverse and informative experiences, including:
- Working in an intensive outpatient program for pre-adolescents and teenagers with emotional dysregulation and behavioral concerns
- Providing on-site therapeutic support for teenagers in a public school in West Seattle
- Offering in-home counseling to families in the greater Boston area, including trauma support and psychoeducation
- Conducting psychometric testing and report writing for children and adolescents assessing cognitive and academic achievement and exploring the presence of mental health concerns
- Running a group foster home, providing therapy for residents and managing household staff
- Working collaboratively with families in private practice

Therapy Experience
In their reviews, James Ullrich and Laura Rhynard share their exceptional experiences with Taylor, a therapist who has made a significant positive impact on their lives. Both clients praise Taylor's unique combination of humanity and intelligence, which sets him apart from other therapists they have worked with.
Compassion and Wisdom
James Ullrich, a colleague of Taylor's, notes that Taylor is a therapist of great compassion and wisdom. He impressed James with his ability to provide insightful guidance, making him one of the few therapists James refers to. Laura Rhynard, a past client, echoes James' sentiments, stating that she felt comfortable and safe sharing her thoughts and feelings with Taylor, which allowed her to open up and work through her challenges.
Life-Changing Experience
Both reviewers credit Taylor with helping them navigate difficult periods in their lives. James doesn't explicitly state how Taylor helped him, but Laura Rhynard notes that working with Taylor enabled her to get through a tough time and learn coping mechanisms for managing her anxiety.
