Empowering individuals to thrive and live their most authentic selves

The Center for Families and Relationships (CFAR) is a not for profit counseling center that has been serving the needs of individuals, couples, families, and children since 1994. Founded by Maryann C. Volk, a former teacher and principal with the Archdioceses of Philadelphia, CFAR has been committed to providing high-quality mental health services to the community for over 28 years. Our team of experienced therapists is dedicated to helping our clients build stronger, healthier relationships and overcome life's challenges.

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Families and Relationships is to strengthen and build resiliency in families by providing individual, family, and couples counseling utilizing a holistic approach to treatment. We are partners in parenting, empowering members of the family to make a permanent, positive change towards becoming productive members of their own family and of our community as a whole.

Specialties and Services

At CFAR, we specialize in family and child therapy, which is based on the belief that one individual is not the problem, but all members are part of the solution. We believe that family/community is essential to the healthy development of children, and we strive to create a safe and child-friendly environment where they can express themselves and receive the support they need.

Our team of therapists is trained in systems therapy, which involves a top-down systems perspective that considers the individual, family, and community as a whole. We use evidence-based practices and creative solutions to empower caregivers and help our clients break free from limiting patterns and beliefs.

In addition to family and child therapy, we offer a range of services to meet the diverse needs of our clients. These services include:

  • Outpatient mental health services
  • Together Through Trauma program
  • Children Deserving Services program
  • Art/Play therapy
  • Psychiatry services
  • Therapy Open Access Hours
  • Psychiatry Open Access Hours

Our Team

At CFAR, we believe that culturally competent and trauma-informed care is essential to delivering high-quality mental health services. Our team of therapists is committed to ongoing education and training in systems therapy, evidence-based practices, and creative solutions. We value diversity and inclusion and are proud to be allies to the LGBTQIAA community.

Our team includes a Board of Directors, leadership, therapists, and support staff, all of whom are dedicated to delivering compassionate, personalized care to every client we serve.
