Services
As a psychotherapist, Sonja provides individual, couple, and family therapy to address a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, effects of divorce and family conflict, post-traumatic stress, complex trauma, parenting issues, grief and loss, effects of childhood abuse and neglect, relationship issues, bulimia and body image, sexuality and gender issues, and more. She utilizes various modalities in her practice, including talk therapy, family therapy, play therapy, EMDR therapy, and aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy, depending on what approach is the best fit for each client.
Specialties
Sonja has specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy, a well-researched treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and complex trauma. She is certified by the EMDR International Association and has successfully used this modality to help clients overcome the effects of negative life experiences. With her extensive experience working with couples and families, Sonja is skilled in reducing conflict and deepening relationships.
Biography
Sonja earned her Master's Degree in Social Service from the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in 1994. She is licensed in the state of Pennsylvania in Clinical Social Work. Sonja has worked in various settings, including private practice, hospitals, and schools. She has also taught English language and literature to high school students in Zimbabwe and has been a lecturer at The School of Social Policy and Practice at The University of Pennsylvania.
