As a licensed clinical professional counselor and a licensed psychologist, I, Mark I. Holbrook, Ph. D., have extensive experience in providing training and consultation services to these organizations. I have been an adjunct instructor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and a former instructor for the Maine Department of Corrections.

Clinical Practice

As a licensed clinical professional counselor, I have a limited clinical practice specializing in Posttraumatic Stress Injury (PTSI), trauma, and other issues related to law enforcement personnel, firefighters, and other emergency service personnel and their families. These civil service positions place unique demands on individuals, requiring counselors with equally specialized training, knowledge, and experience. I am committed to providing a personalized and compassionate approach to address the complex psychological needs of these individuals. If I am unable to accept a new patient, I will make every effort to help connect them with another qualified counselor.

The Importance of PTSI Awareness

As experts in the field recognize, Posttraumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) is not a lifelong disorder like personality disorders but rather an injury caused by extraordinary environmental experiences that can be treated. I believe it is essential to address the root causes of PTSI and to provide targeted and effective treatments to mitigate its effects.

Hypnotherapy

In addition to traditional therapy methods, I am trained in hypnotherapy and frequently use this effective approach to expedite therapy. For some individuals, hypnosis is the treatment of choice when more traditional methods have been less successful.
