What Is a Neuropsychological Evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive battery of objective and standardized tests designed to assess cognitive functions such as attention, memory, learning, language, and problem-solving skills. As a neuropsychologist, I am trained to choose from an array of tests based on the individual's referral question or problem. The evaluation can last anywhere from 3 to 10 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem being evaluated.
Why Choose a Neuropsychologist?
As a neuropsychologist, I have a Psy. D. or Ph. D. degree and have completed graduate training in psychology, holds a state license, and has received post-doctoral training specializing in neuropsychology. I am qualified to evaluate brain-behavior relationships and assess cognitive functioning in the context of psychological, developmental, or medical illness using standardized tests. My training enables me to integrate the patient's clinical background, history, and applicable school and medical records into a comprehensive report, which is used to help guide treatment decisions and make specific recommendations based on the patient's unique strengths and weaknesses.
