Blueridge Counseling Services

At Blue Ridge Counseling, we are a private practice outpatient emotional wellness clinic dedicated to providing high-quality mental health services to individuals in central and southwest Virginia. Our clinic is led by Dr. Keith E. Fender, a licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience in forensic mental health, geriatric mental health, violence risk assessment, sex offender evaluations/treatment, and batterer intervention treatment programs.

Our Story

Dr. Fender has been working in the field of mental health for over two decades, with a focus on treating a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, cognitive disorders, personality disorders, and sexual disorders. He has operated batterer intervention programs in southwest Virginia since 1996 and has been certified since 2000. He has also served as a consultant and provided professional services to attorneys, clients, and individuals in multiple states.

Domestic Violence Alternatives Program

Our Domestic Violence Alternatives Program (DVAP) is a comprehensive treatment program designed to assist individuals in ending physical, verbal, and emotional abuse. Our program goals are to:

• Assist individuals in ending physical, verbal, and emotional abuse
• Provide individuals an opportunity to learn non-threatening ways to resolve conflict
• Provide opportunities for individuals to build healthy relationships

Our treatment programs are tailored to the unique needs of each individual, and we take a holistic approach to addressing the complex issues surrounding domestic violence. Our treatment program includes:

• Assessment and evaluation services
• Individual and group therapy sessions
• Educational and skills-building activities

Who We Serve

Our DVAP program serves individuals charged with domestic violence offenses, stalking, child abuse/neglect, or other family/intimate partner violence. We also accept self-referrals and employment referrals.
