Welcome to Honor Your Path Counseling, where I, Dr. Neetu Smith, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), offer therapy services to individuals and couples facing challenges in their inner emotional and mental wellbeing, relationships, parenting roles, professional lives, or spiritual quests.
Areas of Clinical Expertise
As an LMFT, I specialize in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, attention challenges, codependency, sleep difficulties, and relationship conflicts. I also work with couples experiencing distress, dissatisfaction, and decreased intimacy due to destructive communication patterns.
Approach to Psychotherapy
I believe that life challenges present opportunities for growth. When we don't have effective coping mechanisms, these challenges manifest as sleep difficulties, depression, or anxiety. My approach focuses on teaching clients to manage internal distress and cope with anxieties by responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively to life events and circumstances.
Clinical Specialty
I utilize Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Clinical Hypnosis to help clients overcome symptoms and achieve their relational or individual goals. I take a systems perspective, considering clients' physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual health in my therapy work.
Bio
As a licensed therapist, I have spent 20 years working in various capacities, including clinical work, teaching, and research. My passion lies in the sacred and honorable work of therapy, where I hold space for each client's unique experience or suffering. I believe that the mind-body interface holds great potential for alleviating suffering and have had the privilege of working with clients to integrate mindfulness and hypnosis techniques in their therapy work.
Interventions and Techniques
In addition to traditional cognitive-behavioral strategies, I specialize in the use of Mind-Body techniques, primarily Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Clinical Hypnosis. These techniques provide relief from psychological and emotional symptoms, as well as stress-mediated medical conditions.
Work with Couples
I help couples develop differentiation and resilience, rather than dependence, and work with partners to address individual issues contributing to relationship difficulties. Borrowing from John Gottman's model, I teach couples conflict-resolution skills and help them practice these skills in sessions.
About the Practice
Honor Your Path Counseling is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals and couples to address their unique challenges. As a licensed therapist, I take a holistic approach to therapy, considering the interconnectedness of physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual health.
